I wonder how as a species we have come to value otherwise useless pieces of paper more than our self-respect and in many cases our very lives. What is fiat, commonly called paper money or cash? Primarily fragile pieces of paper rendered useless in fire, shredding, etc.*

If we dump all of the fiat in the oceans today, what would happen—in addition to most people losing their minds—which is part of my point? Well the oceans would be fine, they would dissolve, shred, and eliminate the artificially buoyed and manufactured bits of false value in almost no time.* Money, a so called evolutionary development, but really more like a cancer passed on from the first most significantly oppressive excuses for civilization, including the Babylonians, to our world as of 2011. So what are our alternatives from basic to large, even global scales? Bartering to Biotecture!!! Yes BIOTECTURE.

WAKE UP!!! We don't need fiat!!!

We need FOOD; we need WATER; we need shelter and, in many environments, clothing; we need LOVE, but we certainly don’t need
fiat and evil financial markets and their artificially manufactured terrors.

We can get all of our needs fulfilled in Biotecture communities and similar sustainable developments but instead most have chosen, through ignorance and apathy, lives of frustration and terror in demeaning, dreadful, urban hellholes, including nyc.

With best wishes, Paul Ainsworth Francis, suvazheniem.

------
*Coins are a physical exception to this example of destruction, somewhat; obviously one cannot destroy coins as easily as paper but their value is even more spurious than paper money in their modern form, except perhaps for gold coins, which are fairly rare and used now only for investment purposes.

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Dead. Indeed, I was once firmly in the camp of non-believers. Even as of writing this, I still have my doubts; however, the sheer volume of convincing proof from credible sources, including various scientists and professors, that we should expect unparalleled levels of solar activity among other unprecedented events makes at least part of me take the potential for massive cataclysms in 2012 very seriously (http://www.december212012.com/download/2012/FOX_Solar_Storms.htm). Moreover, indicators that the processes linked to a potential doomsday are already underway include: peak oil; the tsunami and nuclear meltdown in Japan; the largest earthquake in over a century and hurricane Irene in New York City of 2011; and the global recession/depression (British Broadcasting Corporation [BBC] August 26, 2011; Collapse from BLUEMARK films; Caribbean Estidama from SUPERNEED films).

Viscerally, I expect a massive die-off of human beings and most species on our planet, about 50% or more. On a scientific level, once enough infrastructure is destroyed, the unnatural dependence on utilities, grocery stores, and even more on oil that afflicts most human beings, especially in developed countries, guarantees terrible times, except for those who have managed to have the foresight and/or luxury of living off the grid enough to survive, e.g. Biotecture owners and communities.

I heard one very cynical believer in much of the work of the McKennas and Time Wave Theory say "we can do with a lot less people on this planet." He was basically summarizing a fairly maniacal point of view that it will be good for the earth and humanity if we experience billions of human beings and species dying in 2012. Even in my most nihilistic moments, I cannot support such a view. At most, I will admit that if all of the mass murderers die in 2012 related calamities, I will not be as sad as if most of the biotects and quakers do. So in a way, even though it exposes me to high levels of scorn and derision, I think I have a duty to at least wake up as many people as possible to the potential for cataclysms in 2012.

Preferably, apropos to my interests, I will attract intelligent and fun-loving people to work to guarantee our survival and perhaps even improve the world, especially via establishing at least one Biotecture Friends Community; so that 2013 will produce a world better than our current one. Finally, if we approach these unprecedented dilemmas with the right attitude, our efforts may yield appropriately mind-blowing, sustainable levels of pleasure for us.

Revolution Solution for Biotecture Friends Most Pleasure Communities

Revolution Solution for Biotecture Friends Most Pleasure Communities, Being More Pleasurable than all Ones.

Aim: To build, maintain, and improve Quaker[-run] Earthship Biotecture Communities to improve the well-being of as many people, especially those who want to live in said communities, as possible as much as possible and as soon as possible, including now.

We find ourselves barraged with seemingly unending references to financial problems in the world, including our own individual ones, and proposed solutions. Politicians, especially, pride themselves on pledging to bring about change, promising more jobs etc. Well, as excellent and important as jobs can be--certainly almost everyone either wants one or a better one--this tired excuse for a solution, as old as civilization itself, can only go so far.

What shocks me is that the fiscal solution, at least, in line with the principles of swadeshi, already exists in a way that doesn't necessarily require erudite thinking or genius. Thanks to the inspirational statistical analysis [projections] of HSBC bank (et al) and the proven success of Earthship Biotecture and the Quakers, we know that if enough of us reach into our furniture ("over 1.3 billion in loose change in backs of couches" in America alone [HSBC MTA advertisment January 2011]), cars (probably over 9 billion in US alone), and pockets for loose--virtually perpetually unused--change, pool this wasted money together, and invest it into building, maintaining, and improving Biotecture Friends Communities, we can "invoke the necessities of life for ourselves" and thrive, love, and prosper while BMPTAO (Biotecture Volume III).

Greatest Strengths of A Priori and A Posteriori Aspects of My, Ainsworth Francis', Philosophies: Being More Pleasurable than All Ones.

Being more pleasurable than all ones means being more pleasurable than every and/or all past, present, and future condition(s), experience(s), thing(s), universe(s), orgasm(s), etc. This translation encompasses a wide array of effects of both a priori and a posteriori significance. Like a great coach, the a priori aspects of being more pleasurable than all ones, which lead directly to the nature of the equivalence principle of pleasure, empower a seemingly clairvoyant tendency to help to produce the most pleasurable situations via analyzing the past, guiding present actions, and protecting the future (i.e. guarding against Murphy's Law etc. while maintaining a state of the most pleasure); and if desired, comparing and reveling in the archetypal position of the most pleasure relative to other states of being. The a posteriori aspects of being more pleasurable than all ones are like the best players in the world, they--encompassing the realm of experiences/existentialism and scoring the highest numbers of goals via the most prolific, imaginative, and fortunate play--are like Andres Iniesta scoring the winning goal in the World Cup finals in 2010. In other words, the a posteriori aspects of my Weltanschauung, provide me with the solace of knowing that there is nothing more pleasurable than my current being as I interface with the world directly. President Obama and most mainstream thinkers and leaders, no matter how compelling or well-intentioned are prisoners—arguably more so than the rest of us—of an archaic and ill-conceived socioeconomic system (Ruppert). Francis)
Inspired immensely by the work of Earthship Biotecture: www.revolutionariesbeatthematrix.com/

We, the most loving people, have to improve our well-being as much as possible and as soon as possible, including now. In order to do this, gainfully, we have to enjoy, cultivate, employ, and spread the most winning and the most meditative natural addictions that are more addictive than the worst addictions--especially cars, man-made drugs [in particular alcoholic beverages; yeah I know I'm beginning to sound like a hardcore anti-establishment rasta but bear with me], financial debt [especially consumer debt], the internet, computers, and television. I call these the worst addictions because even though most do not consider them addictions--increasingly computers are rightly seen as addictive though: "Psychological dependence does not have to be limited only to substances; even activities and behavioural patterns can be considered addictions, if they become uncontrollable, e.g. problem gambling, Internet addiction, computer addiction, sexual addiction / pornography addiction, overeating, self-injury, compulsive buying, or work addiction (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Substance_use_disorder)"--they have come to dominate much of the average person's life often in ways that are clearly unhealthy and destructive of the individual's and society's well-being.

Fortunately, from the beginning of human existence, we have been blessed with wholesome and naturally pleasurable ways to spend our time. In many ways, the most important polemic against negative addictions, merely requires a return to more natural ways of life. However, Mother Nature can use some help from the worlds of philosophy and spin. So I decided to group and--in theory and it seems in reality too increasingly--enhance these natural practices by giving them a powerful makeover that turns the idea of addiction up side down like Jack Johnson the singer and surfer might say from his song of the same title ("Upside Down"). As far as I have come to discern through my experiences, the Most Meditative and the Most Winning Natural Addictions are:

1. Meditating (especially in fresh air outdoors) safely away from negative people and the worst addictions

2. Getting the right amount of Vitamin D (See Dowd's vit D calculator online) and beta-endorphins (The Vitamin D Solution, Michael Holick) from direct exposure (outdoors again) to sunlight

3. Consuming Healthy and Nutritious Foods and Beverages (preferably organic) at ease in a peaceful and uplifting environment

4. Excercising joyfully (preferably outdoors, [maybe there's a trend here])

5. Sleeping most excellently

6. Being satisfied

7. Enjoying the most businesslike successes, which I, Paul Ainsworth Francis, can only teach in person or via detailed written work (among the most important is MFCR).

Even though it's easier said than done, I find that focusing on the mantra "FEEL BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE" sometimes helps me to accomplish these most meditative and most winning addictions gainfully. When you focus sincerely on feeling better than ever before, naturally, you are forced to make the best of your current situation--and if necessary improve it radically--so that you feel better than ever before.

Arguably the most important way of looking at human behavior is via the paradigm of addiction. Though addiction is normally used to describe negative behavior patterns, in many ways almost any human activity can give the impression of addiction when analyzed, including over the long term. If we view addiction as an overwhelming compulsion for some substance outside of the body, then even a starving man's manic and desperate yearning for food might give the impression of someone with an eating disorder/addiction to food if the observer was not aware of all the details, i.e. that the man was starving, of the situation. This is not meant to dilute the significance of the term addiction when used to describe serious psychological disorders; rather, I intend to extend its meaning to encompass a wider array of behaviors than normally considered within the rubric of addiction.

Part of my motivation for looking at the most of the problems and also the solutions in the world as products of addiction is from a truism that I once heard which goes as follows: in order to break free from a negative addiction you have to develop an even stronger addiction, preferably a wholesome and healthy one.

Even scientifically, experiments show: "Nearly all drugs, directly or indirectly, target the brain’s reward system by flooding the circuit with dopamine.[28] As a person continues to overstimulating [sic] the “reward circuit”, the brain adapts to the overwhelming surges in dopamine by producing less of the hormones or by reducing the number of receptors in the reward circuit. As a result, the chemical’s impact on the reward circuit is lessened, reducing the abuser’s ability to enjoy the things that previously brought pleasure.[28] This decrease compels those addicted to dopamine to increase the drug consumption in order to attempt to bring their "feel-good" hormone level back to normal —an effect known as tolerance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Substance_use_disorder)." Though this description of addiction is describing physical, not psychological, addiction, it still pertains to the most important polemic, as the worst addictions are a combination of physical and psychological ones.

It's common-sense then that to beat negative addictions--especially the worst ones described earlier--we have to re-empower our natural feel-good chemicals and reward circuits so that equanimity prevails in our bodies and lives most consistently. I have found that the Most Meditative and the Most Winning Natural Addictions help me to succeed in this struggle for improving my well-being. I hope they help you too.

<category scheme='http://www.blogger.com/atom/ns#' term='Ik voel me beter dan ‘ooit tevoren. This family member is known for her excessively critical and offensive tirades but her negative attack really shocked me. In response to her and any potential critics, first of all, and perhaps most importantly, I practice non-violence; so when I say destroy the Evil Empire, I insist that it is done non-violently. As I cited in the epigraph to the post, "satyagraha [means the] practice of nonviolent resistance...love and firmness" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satyagraha). The term comes not just from Vandana Shiva but originally from Mahatma Gandhi.

Quite frankly, I am well aware that both “feel better than ever before” and its more aggressive manifestation of “destroy the Evil Empire completely, permanently now” are not appreciated by many people. Especially when one is dealing with particularly painful circumstances--perhaps worst of all the death of a loved one--it probably seems inappropriate to feel better than ever before. I do not recommend trying to feel better than ever before if you cannot manage it. However, I agree with Ziggy Marley that: “there’s a rainbow in the sky all the time.” If you are not able to focus enough on the blessings in life, even in the midst of otherwise terrible circumstances, then life would not be worth living. I hope people realize that the life practice of “FEEL BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE” is neither a random development nor a product of an irrational person. I may not be able to control what you think of me but I will not let the only idea that has allowed me to rescue my life from some of the most depressing circumstances ever fall into the mire of those who are not capable of nuanced analysis and reflection.

P.S. There are over twenty pages worth of text that document my systematic approach to this practice; however, I am not going to waste my time publishing them for free on this blog. Also the conflicts that have come to light via this blog and previous online failures of mine are proof that the internet often has a negative impact on society and on each individual. "As we look for validation and our daily 15 minutes of fame, we do so at the cost of our humanity" (http://calacanis.com/2009/01/29/we-live-in-public-and-the-end-of-empathy/). For this and many other reasons, including that I can spend my time doing much more fun things--especially existing to improve the well-being of the most loving and the most indispensable people, including myself, as much as possible and skateboarding--I plan on deleting this blog and probably my entire online presence--except for things that help me to practice FEEL BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE--in the upcoming months and keeping my life and work offline in the best way. Thus, I define the Evil Empire as the aspects of the world that are more painful than pleasurable, especially over the long-term. This includes all individuals whose way of life produces more pain than pleasure for the majority of people in the world. Obvious examples of the Evil Empire are: murderers (including those who have fought in and/or are willingly fighting in unjust wars); sadists; the schools and terrible cultures that are factories whose primary products are sadists and Machiavellians; excessively selfish, rich people; and the largely terrible socioeconomic and political systems that have existed with excessive hubris for a mere 10,000 years—since the beginning of sendentary societies and ultimately civilizations—out of at least 12 million years of human existence (Davidson Africa in History 9).

Be the way to destroy the Evil Empire for us, the best and most loving people, in the best way happily, permanently, positively, as soon as possible.

Swadeshi! I big up Ziggy Marley, Jack Johnson, Adam Yauch and the rest of the best Bodhisattvas.

"Doctrine

Few things can be said with certainty about Mahayana Buddhism, especially its early Indian form, other than that the Buddhism practiced in China, Vietnam, Korea, Tibet, and Japan is Mahayana Buddhism.[53][54] Mahayana can be described as a loosely bound bundle of many teachings, which was thus able to contain the various contrasting ideas found between those differing teachings of whose elements it is comprised.[55]

Mahayana is a large religious and philosophical structure. It constitutes an inclusive faith characterized by the adoption of new Mahayana sutras in addition to the earlier Agama texts, and a shift in the basic purpose and concepts of Buddhism. Mahayana sees itself as penetrating further and more profoundly into the Buddha's Dharma. There is a tendency in Mahayana sutras to regard adherence to Mahayana sutras as generating spiritual benefits greater than those which arise from being a follower of the non-Mahayana approaches to Dharma. Thus the Srimala Sutra claims that the Buddha said that devotion to Mahayana is inherently superior in its virtues to the following of the Sravaka or Pratyekabuddha path.[56]
Buddha Amithaba in Tibetan Buddhism, traditional Thanka painting.

Mahayana Buddhist schools de-emphasize the ideal of the release from Suffering and the attainment of Nirvana, found in the Early Buddhist Schools. The fundamental principles of Mahayana doctrine were based around the possibility of universal liberation from suffering for all beings (hence "great vehicle") and the existence of Buddhas and Bodhisattva embodying Buddha-nature (佛性). Some Mahayana schools simplify the expression of faith by allowing salvation to be alternatively obtained through the grace of the Buddha Amitabha (अमिताभ) by having faith and devoting oneself to chanting to Amitabha. This devotional lifestyle of Buddhism is most strongly emphasized by the Pure Land schools and has greatly contributed to the success of Mahayana in East Asia, where spiritual elements traditionally relied upon chanting of a Buddha's name, of mantras or dharanis; reading of Mahayana sutras and mysticism. In Chinese Buddhism, most monks, let alone lay people, practise Pure Land, some combining it with Chan (Zen).[57]

Most Mahayana schools believe in a pantheon of quasi-divine Bodhisattvas (बोधिसत्त्व) that devote themselves to personal excellence, ultimate knowledge, and the salvation of humanity and all other sentient beings (animals, ghosts, demigods, etc.). Zen Buddhism is a school of Mahayana which often de-emphasizes the pantheon of Bodhisattvas and instead focuses on the meditative aspects of the religion. In Mahayana, the Buddha is seen as the ultimate, highest being, present in all times, in all beings, and in all places, and the Bodhisattvas come to represent the universal ideal of altruistic excellence.

Mahayana Buddhism can in general be characterized by:

* Universalism, in that, in those schools of Mahayana that still have large followings, everyone will become a Buddha (see, for example, the Lotus Sutra);
* Bodhicitta as the main focus of realization (see, for example, the Nirvana Sutra and various Prajnaparamita Sutras);
* Compassion through the transferral of merit;
* Transcendental immanence, in that the immortal Buddha Principle (see, for example, Buddha-nature, Mahaparinirvana Sutra, Angulimaliya Sutra, Srimala Sutra, Tathagatagarbha Sutra) is present within all beings.

“Philosophical” Mahayana tends to focus on the first three characteristics (universalism, enlightened wisdom, compassion) and, in some schools, the Buddha-nature, without showing much interest in supernatural constructions, while “devotional” Mahayana focuses mainly on salvation towards other-worldly realms (see, for example, the Sukhavati sutras).

…Because the Mahayana traditions assert that eventually everyone will achieve samyaksam (buddhahood) or total enlightenment, the Mahayana is labeled universalist, whereas the stance of the early scriptures is that attaining nibbana depends on effort and is not pre-determined.

Bodhisattva
The later Mahayana school holds that pursuing only the release from suffering and attainment of Nirvana (as held by Pre-sectarian Buddhism and the Early Buddhist Schools) is too narrow an aspiration, because it lacks the motivation of actively resolving to liberate all other beings from samsara, as well as oneself.
The primary focus of some Mahayana schools is bodhicitta, the vow to strive for buddhahood or awakened mind both for oneself and for the benefit of all other sentient beings. As Ananda Coomaraswamy notes, "The most essential part of the Mahanyana is its emphasis on the Bodhisattva ideal, which replaces the Arhatta, or ranks before it."[60] According to Mahayana teachings, being a high-level bodhisattva involves possessing a mind of great compassion conjoined with insight into reality (prajna), realizing emptiness and/or the buddhic essence of all things. Mahayana teaches that the practitioner will realize the final goal of full Awakening (Buddhahood): an omniscient, blissful mind completely free from suffering and its causes, that is able to work tirelessly for the benefit of all living beings.
Six virtues or perfections (paramitas) are listed for the bodhisattva: generosity, morality, patience, energy, meditation, and wisdom" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahayana).<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v22.nonxt1.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D9b90cfc15af8f3b6%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1329999405%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D94A595EF2442DFC8433BFA039C32049D45B1E90.4F5FD5A6D0AB4AD9E8B8490F8E1B9DA45CBD83C%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D9b90cfc15af8f3b6%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3D-NtOo29iWWsGoSPHIMfTk9GkwA0&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Succeed Best

We--the best sinequanonologists--and I succeed best; we--the best sinequanonologists--and I have the best successes: Dealing in Virtue Advertising on and via Friendbliss Everyday!

Practical Implications for the World

We must begin at the most formative stages in human development in our societies in order to solve the entire world’s problems in the best way—thus in a fecund and successful way. In other words, we must address the differences that emerge among human beings that have created systemically opposed classes and groups and the concurrent inequity in the socialization and education of youth in our societies. It behooves us to create more capable citizens by investing more money and time in impoverished areas that require them the most. I believe that we will have a good start in achieving these goals by making K-12 teaching one of the top ten most competitive and well-paid occupations, especially in impoverished areas. If we choose to look at our society as an organic whole in which a problem in one area affects all others, then like any efficient organism we must focus energy on fixing those parts that are not working well.

Also, I think that we should provide financial incentives for good parents. For example, parents whose children do well consistently in academics (especially science, mathematics, and computer programming), arts, sports and other areas that are assessed by educators should be rewarded with tax breaks and other federally endowed benefits. We need to overhaul K-12 education in the best way and maintain a focus on training in information technology and related areas that have proven dynamic in producing growth in the world’s economies.

We should create a grassroots-based initiative and network that trains couples seeking to be parents intensively over the course of a year and in a follow-up program for the rest of their lives after the year of training and birth of the child. Graduates of this program will be able to provide their child or children of their first pregnancy with the financial equivalent of the education, health care, services, and other resources that people currently making at least $75,000 U.S. dollars per year—according to 2004 monetary exchange and inflation standards after taxes—are able to provide a single child of their own with. Still, there would have to be a clear limit on this. This program should only provide such benefits for the child or children—e.g. twins—created by one pregnancy and encourage the parents to use birth control to prevent any further pregnancies unless they are professionally, financially, and emotionally capable of providing for more children equally well without any subsidies.

We should strive to bolster and promote currently effective educational programs, such as the KIPP Academies. This requires consistent financial support for these programs. I am an advocate for restructuring much of the dysfunctional parts of the socio-economic system of America, and in most of the world’s countries, as optimally as we can. Most importantly all concerned people must work to create a holistic space that fosters open discourse in regard to these issues. We must expose the most true and sine qua non processes at work in the legal system and all connected areas of social life—for example education and work—in an effort to significantly improve our societies’ people, institutions, and the happiness and well-being of all members of our societies as much as possible and as soon as possible, including now.

An important aspect of achieving these goals will require calculating the sustainable amount of income and resources per year equally for each person and family. The equations needed to do this are available. Basically, for income this requires making a precise estimate of the amount of liquid money in the world per year as long as human beings are predicted to live (refined by taking into account the use of barter systems in many third world economies and the prevalence of black market financial exchanges) and then dividing this by the number of people that the earth can optimally sustain per year as long as human beings are predicted to live on earth; this will yield the gross amount of income available equally to every individual. Available income is directly dependent on the availability of resources.

Studies such as the Millenium Ecosystem Assessment (Island Press, World Resources Institute and www.milleniumassessment.org 2005) have made great strides in explaining the extent of our deficit in the struggle to make human life on earth increasingly sustainable. Scientists have revealed [quote millenium assessment pdf]...Thus we know the limits of our resources on this earth. Thus individually and collectively like any fit organism or group from the same species found in nature if equipped with the natural drive to survive and compelling information about the best path to take to ensure that survival, so too should all mentally and physically fit human beings strive to make the best choices for the fecund well-being of ourselves individually and for our entire species. In this way, once we know the gross and the net amount of income available to everyone in the world, we can then work to adjust our behavior, especially in terms of sexual reproduction and consumption, to optimize the lives of all human beings.

It is imperative that we educate as many of the world’s female human beings, especially young girls, so that they will become empowered and make choices that will improve their own lives and those of any potential offspring. Clearly, many, including Malthus, have sought to improve human society by arguing for example that only people, specifically men at that time, with a certain minimum level of wealth should ever consider marrying and having children. The difference between such philosophies and arguments and the agenda connected to sinequanonological thought is that the sinequanonological ones provide a far more comprehensive and sustainable model.

[We should strive to bolster and promote currently effective sinequanonological information technology for the best people like Friendbliss. This requires consistent financial support for these networks.]

Moreover in returning to the importance of Theories of Everything (T.O.E’s)—including M Theory—and their ontological focus, we see that the nature and course of human reproduction, our interaction with our native planet, and ultimately evolution have clear implications for any inquiry into the workings of the universe. Even the development of human cognition bears tremendous value for sinequanonology. What role does the unconscious mind play in our unfolding daily realities? This is a question for psychology. Exploring the power and limits of the human mind and increasingly of computers and machines possessing artificial intelligence has direct epistemological significance for sinequanonology and all other intellectual disciplines and sciences.

Best Activities: Orienteering, camping, rockclimbing, surfing, swimming (especially long distance), skateboarding, snowboarding, sailing, soccer, basketball, tennis, golf, polo (water and horse), horseback riding, and music (especially playing instruments and singing, preferably with professional coaching at varying points)

Best books: Africa in History, Business @ The Speed of Thought, the best of Vandana Shiva (especially Biopiracy, Water Wars, and Earth Democracy), Computer Programming Books, Math and Science Books, Business Books, Succeeding Against the Odds, Love and Life, Titans of the B.E. 100s, the best of Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill's work (e.g. Utilitarianism and Other Essays), The End of Poverty, The Muqaddimah of Ibn Khaldun (Arabic: مقدّمة ابن خلدون), The Elegant Universe, Living to Tell About It

Yes We Can and Do Have the Best Legacy!

November 4, 2008 was a day of tremendous significance; I mean it's just great. Her spirit reminds me that I have to be true to myself, a blessed and favorite son of Jamaica.

Gaia is Holy.

"Got to be true to Myself!" (Ziggy Marley Dragonfly album)

I just watched Strange Days, the National Geographic three-part series, about ecological dilemmas of our time, on PBS. Wow, this work really blew my mind; I mean, on the one hand, I was flabbergasted by just how thoroughgoing many of these problems are. On the other hand, even though I felt overcome with grief by how much our use of chemicals--especially fertilizers and those in consumer products--has created most of these disastrous conditions, I know that there is still hope. I mean, like Edward Norton, who narrated the program, said, "sometimes the most complex problems have the simplest of solutions." An excellent example of this is the wolf reintroduction program, spearheaded by Doug Smith, which has revitalized much of Yellowstone National Park's Ecosystem.

Everyone in the world is affected by environmental degradation. The series cited the destruction of our precious, Caribbean, coral reefs--especially since the 1980s--due largely to overfishing. Some of the problems are bigger than a straightforward man-made cause, as in the case of increased asthma in children of the Caribbean, which is most likely a result of greater quantities of dust blown in from the receded Lake Chad and the greater Sahara region. Still, changing our behaviors as individual citizens is often a key part of the solution to these dilemmas. Once again, I recommend that everyone purchase a PDF copy of Kostigen and Roger's The Green Book; also please check out the advice on pbs.org from the Strange Days documentary. Furthermore: "We can increase the use of affordable renewable energy, we can make our homes, cars and buildings more energy efficient, we can create new jobs, save money and reduce global warming.

We can do it! The Sierra Club's 2008 Earth Day website is designed to make it easier for you to celebrate Earth Day AND make a real difference at home, in your community, and for the future.

At www.sierraclub.org/earthday we'll jump in the shower and show you. We don't ask you to work with your church congregation to figure out ways to use less energy -- we give you a guide and introduce you to other people who've already done it. And we have other success stories for you -- people who have already embraced clean energy and efficiency -- like Darrell Dickey and Stephen Weitz who drive cars that NEVER need gas; businesses like a winery in California, a hotel in Montana, Subway sandwich shops in Texas that are already saving money and cutting their carbon emissions.

We can do it. You can be part of the push for a clean energy economy -- at home, and in your community. Learn how at www.sierraclub.org/earthday" and http://www.greenforall.org/
(Greg Haegele of Sierra Club 4/8/08 and my notes from Sunday meeting at Five Spot). The bottom line is that we need Gaia, Our Mother Earth, to survive, so we need to do a better job of protecting and improving her well-being.

The Meaning of the Best Life

Considered obsolete by most--and perhaps all of society--I revel in my, Paul Ainsworth Francis', natural state of being.

The Best Technologies and Innovations

Caribbean people are known for being great innovators, especially in business and music, and love technologies that improve our lives while making us richer in the best way. Yes, Caribbean people love these, especially when they are encapsulated in a quick, to-the-point saying. I'm going to add one to our paragon: what is most important is our common humanity. I've written extensively about topics like ending poverty and environmentalism so this is a natural progression from such work.

Joga Bonito

I have to get back to Joga Bonito in the best way. Writing about ecological issues and solutions and practicing LOHAS is providing me with great equanimity and joy. It’s encouraging to know that I’m helping to abolish pollution, poverty, and injustice in the process. I really love The Green Book: The Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet by Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas Kostigen. I am citing Rogers and Kostigen’s work, Vandana Shiva’s Biopiracy and Water Wars, and the UN’s Millennium Ecosystem Assessment Report in my next book. I thank them thoroughly for having created such an excellent work. I hope to improve upon their efforts in my own writing and life. I recommend Rogers and Kostigen’s Green Book as essential reading for those who want a work that describes practical steps for improving our earth.

We, concerned citizens, must leverage our power to produce the best improvements for our well-being. Thus, environmentalists, including Lohasians, must cooperate to abolish pollution, poverty, and injustice. The internet is an excellent resource for organizing like-minded individuals. Via LOHAS websites, listservers, and blogs, we can exchange ideas and launch campaigns. When possible and environmentally appropriate, we should also try to meet in person. By environmentally appropriate, I mean an action that does not contribute unnecessarily or excessively to the destruction of our earth’s resources or well-being. I will discuss the importance of environmentally appropriate and sustainable behaviors in my upcoming book about environmentalism. By uniting, we become vital, political bodies able to get laws passed and/or changed so that the political system(s), and thus socioeconomic system(s) of the world, benefit Gaia as much as possible and as soon as possible, including now. This will create a world of justice, peace and shared well-being (Sachs, The End of Poverty xvii). Thus we can pool our intelligence and resources to improve our world thoroughly.

© 2008 Paul Ainsworth Delano Francis.

Swadeshi!
